چکیده

A variety of techniques to facilitate fast graphical display of curves and surfaces for interactive CAGD purposes have been developed, in the past years. Many of these are commonly referred to as subdivision algorithms PI. In this paper we propose a method for subdividing simplex splines, i.e., splines that can be defined over non-regular grid partitions. There is a relatively exhaustive theory of multivariate simplex splints (or shortly B-splines) [6]. Due to some favorable properties, similar to those in the univariate case, the B-splines are suitable, in principle, for application, e.g., in the Finite Element Method or in Computer Aided Geometric Design. On the other hand, their computational properties seem to be very restrictive compared to other available methods. In spite of the existence of a number of recurrence relations to facilitate the numerical manipulation of B-splines, these are often computationally expensive in sharp contrast with the univariate case. Therefore, there naturally arises a need for a subdivisionlike algorithm for simplex B-splines. Some basic ideas on subdivision of B-splines have been described in [l, 12, 14, 151, all based on a geometric interpretation of B-splines. Here, we suggest a different approach. It is based on the notion of discrete simplex splines, which is proven to be an extension of the ideas underlying the definitions of dikcrete cube splines, also called box splines, and discrete cone splines [3, 71. The notion of the

Ternary interpolatory Subdivision Schemes Originated from splines

A generic technique for construction of ternary interpolatory subdivision schemes, which is based on polynomial and discrete splines, is presented. These schemes have rational symbols. The symbols are explicitly presented in the paper. This is accompanied by a detailed description of the design of the refinement masks and by algorithms that verify the convergence of these schemes. In addition, ...

Fast Computation by Subdivision of Multidimensional Splines and Their Applications

We present theory and algorithms for fast explicit computations of uniand multi-dimensional periodic splines of arbitrary order at triadic rational points and of splines of even order at diadic rational points. The algorithms use the forward and the inverse Fast Fourier transform (FFT). The implementation is as fast as FFT computation. The algorithms are based on binary and ternary subdivision ...

Interpolatory subdivision schemes with infinite masks originated from splines

Abstract A generic technique for the construction of diversity of interpolatory subdivision schemes on the base of polynomial and discrete splines is presented in the paper. The devised schemes have rational symbols and infinite masks but they are competitive (regularity, speed of convergence, computational complexity) with the schemes that have finite masks. We prove exponential decay of basic...

Lectures in Discrete Differential Geometry 3 – Discrete Surfaces

We will now study discrete surfaces and build up a parallel theory of curvature that mimics the structure of the smooth theory. First, we need a definition of a discrete surface. There are many possible discrete representations in common use – in this course we will focus on triangle meshes, though much could be said about alternatives, such as point clouds, quad meshes, tensor product splines,...

Interval Simplex Splines for Scientific Databases

Modern technology has enabled the scientific community to collect vast amounts of physical data. These data are often sampled at unstructured spatial locations because of physical constraints, and measured with uncertainty because of measurement technique errors. However, most existing data representation and visualization methods apply only to gridded or regular data and ignore the uncertainty...
